Oh my stars! It’s absolutely purrfect! But you know you have now opened a whole new tin of… ummm… tuna. We will expect/demand/beg/plead for more strips dedicated to the best soap opurra on TV! I’m already hooked!
Sigh… seeing the cats and mice watching together in the new break room is inspired. Thanks. And Happy Valentine’s Day!

    This made me ridiculously happy.

Q:Should we adjust our expectations on posting times now that you are on the West Coast?

    • Georgia Dunn
      February 11, 2016, 8:55 pm | # | Reply

Posting times will most likely be sporadic as long as my children are little. I write the comic during their nap times and after they go to sleep at night. I am working on developing the comic with GoComics for newspapers, and will hopefully begin writing it a little more ahead of time within the next year. For now, this is the best I can do. I hope folks will understand I try to get it out as early in the day as I can, and if that window doesn’t happen, I try to get it posted the next time I have a moment. Today the strip was posted during nap time. The past few strips I’ve been able to post it in the morning before the Man goes to work.

That’s the hope!! We are working on getting the strip ready to pitch to newspapers!! There will be more on that over the year, including working toward getting the comic ready for daily strips!! I’ve been working with my wonderful editor for a little over a year on that–there are over 100 BCN strips most people have never seen yet! I hope to start showing them here midway through the year! …It’s still a little complicated, but hopefully it will *look* very smooth, and I will have a lot more information on it this year. πŸ™‚

“there are over 100 BCN strips most people have never seen yet!”

            WHAT?!?!?!!!!!!! 😳😍😳😍

          • Georgia Dunn
            February 13, 2016, 2:14 pm | #

Yes!!! They are all 3-5 panel strips, in the traditional “daily” comic format, such as the strip would be seen in a newspaper! I have been working with my editor at Uclick for about a year on them. Our goal is to keep the details and comedy of the larger BCN strips, in daily doses! They have been coming along quite nicely if I may say so, I am really excited to start sharing them soon!

          • Sionyx
            February 13, 2016, 7:10 pm | #

Will we still get the larger format strips online (not every day, of course!), or is the comic going standard newspaper format in the future?

          • Georgia Dunn
            February 14, 2016, 12:15 am | #

I’m going to move it into standard newspaper formatting, but stories will usually develop over several strips, and I will still have story arcs and ‘specials’ too. My main focus is to hold onto the details, humor, and stories that make the strip special, while making it a little easier to pull off. I love creating Breaking Cat News, but writing and painting two giant strips a week is going to probably burn me out eventually. I count myself lucky that I have been able to sustain it so far. What I would love is to have a new strip every day and try to actually get Breaking Cat News into newspapers. A newspaper strip has been a dream of mine since I was a child, but with newspapers often rerunning old comics forever, I didn’t believe it was a realistic goal. My editor and the President of Uclick both believe that Breaking Cat News could have what it takes to make it into newspapers, and I STILL ALMOST DARE NOT BELIEVE FOR FEAR OF CRUSHING DISAPPOINTMENT—But, I swallow that fear, and I work hard and I hope just as hard, and I try my very best.

And I am creating these “daily” strips with you loyal readers in mind too–most of all, really. The new strips won’t be successful if they’re not as strong as the old strips. I think it is going to be a lot of fun to see. I want us to all have the strip every day, with a big, beautiful painted Sunday strip at the end of the week, just like the comics I grew up reading had. And I also want us to read and experience Breaking Cat News the way we know it, with something new and hopefully funny in EVERY panel, and not just a punch line after 3-4 boxes. It’s been a challenge getting it right, but I really want to attempt it, and I hope so much that I can pull it off!

Sorry for the super long reply! This is something that is always in my heart right now, and I don’t get a chance to share it that often. It’s the mountain I’m climbing right now.

            February 15, 2016, 6:43 pm | #

No complaints about the long reply! You answered my question and a few other things I was wondering about, and I doubt I’m the only one who was wondering. Much as I like the long strips, I’d much rather have shorter strips in a comic that will last than a burned out artist. Best of luck with the syndication push! Maybe you’ll make it in to our local paper, even…

I’d love it if this were a local newspaper strip, but ours is still running strips that can best be described as fossilized remnants of dead ends. So if Georgia manages to get BCN into the Chicago Tribune, that will be awesomeβ€”in the original, not modern, use of the term. At least it will still be online, where I will be able to see it.

          • Georgia Dunn
            February 16, 2016, 2:54 am | #

It will always be online for sure, but I hope so much to get into papers. I feel like it would be an amazing thing to have happen! I love a lot of older comics but… It’s time. IT’S TIME FOR CAT NEWS, AMIRITE? WHO’S WITH ME? CAT NEWS!

While that is a really fun idea a novella is actually a step between short story and novel. It’s basically a really long short story. So if Chase wants to boast his devotion novel would be better. πŸ™‚

I love your comic, Georgia! I am a pretty new subscriber and am absolutely in love with these hilarious cats. Well, this installation certainly threw a curveball. I had to check the title twice to make sure I was on the right website!

The break room is such a good idea. I love Sir Figaro pouring himself coffee, those little cups you draw are so cute! I think we should see more of him and Tabitha in the strip, they have such funny relationships with your boys!

Also, I laughed my head off at, “Cheeseball Yummy Nom nom Kitty Treats.” Pills, huh?

Aw, the soap opera *I’d* want to see (with my cats)! Glad you’re managing to get strips out even with the move (and the weekend one too); I was able to see your comics while in California last week (had to go to the Richmond Public Library for their wi-fi as my Mom has none, but managed to see them if not to comment!), and much as I’ve loved the multi-strip “specials,” I’m happy to see the single outings again as well….

BTW, next cat we get I might have to name Pucky, just ’cause I adore your Puck so much! (But that’s a long time away, our three are all good for ages and ages yet….)

Oh, that black hearted conniving papa cat — though I loved his smile and sly wink! (When I was little, I used to pretend Smarties were pills that I needed to make me happy.)

    Sweet little concerned granddaughter kitten.

Dashing Captain Nimble – even more handsome than Kit Chase!

“…eat garbage.” “That’s gross.” “Hot garbage? Nothing better!”

Loved how you drew the letter! So adorable with all the extras.

And Natasha stretched out still watching the show. I can almost hear her sigh every time Kit shows on the screen.

Thank you, Georgia, for your sweet gentle funny strip. I’m going through a stressful period and having that coupled with my normally bad SAD, your strip is a breath of fresh air and SO welcome.

Also! There is a SNAIL on the letter! The little girl is named sweetheart (in the tags)! Figaro is old school, he’s got a notebook in his pocket.

They’re eating out of cat bowls! ( Given their obvious wealth I would have expected the crystal goblet from the Fancy Feast commercials ).

Why is Angora the only one with an ‘A’ name instead of an ‘S’ name? My theory, A is for she was Taggart’s Love Child, named by her mother and then “A”dopted into the family. Meanwhile, her twin sister is stilll with their mother, ala Parent Trap. Far out? Nothing is too much for a soap opera!

Next year, we need a novel-climbing valentines card in the store πŸ™‚

Ah, but given their colouring, they are obviously silver cat bowls, silver tableware being traditional for old wealthy families (I read too many Golden Age detective novels).
Once again, Georgia shows meticulous research behind the scenes.

That kit chase-what a handsome scoundrel he is. True story-today, while walking the dog, I saw a calico with a black patch of fur around one eye and an orange patch around the other. I thought to myself “that looks a lot like Kit Chase with his eye patch”.

I love, love, love the Kit Chase strips and it never fails to crack me up that the robber mice do, too. They are all worth waiting for-so don’t give a thought to making us wait a little for this fantastic, free content. I am just so glad you are back.

But… but… but… HOW COULD YOU LEAVE IT THERE? Will we ever know if Captain Nimble is alive? Will Father run out of Cheeseball Yummy Nom Nom Kitty Treats and have to make due with *gasp* SALMON Yummy Nom Nom Kitty Treats for his heart condition? Will he even *want* to, knowing that Captain Nimble was on the boat that caught the Real Actual Salmon that’s in them? WE MUST KNOW THESE THINGS!

Also, “I’d climb a whole novel for you” is possibly the most romantic line ever. And the look on Angora’s face as she says “That’s gross” was great, too.

    Sigh,

Where to begin, the break room, the mouse, The soap opera, Kit’s purrfectly smoothed fur… Too much greatness from a talented artist… Congrats and enjoy California Georgia… I stayed in San Fran for 6 months myself, seen china town but came back to Florida ( everyone missed me )

    *ahem* If I may,

This particular comic today, aside from all its goodness of neat stuff that, we loving readers, points outs in the comments ( love it ^^ ) but this time, this story hits me right in the heart, and with Valentine’s Day coming, I’d want to take time and say my part…

I met a good friend in June, and we went our own ways. I had to train my mind and body to be more stronger and independent. When the time was right, we got back together in November and I vowed to stay by her side no matter what. Reading this comic just now, I feel a Kit Chase in my soul. To protect our love, no matter the challenge! *Grin*

Thank you Georgia. I should mention, my sweetie doesn’t do Facebook, so I sent her some Valentine pics of the BCN crew ( We are both cat lovers and she owns a gorgeous white fur cat named Beau). It made her day! And from time to time, I let her know when the new comics are posted…

Indeed I’d climb a novel for my sweetie but *ahem* after re-reading, I’m confused about a few things:

      1.) what’s Natasha drinking? πŸ˜‰

2.) (ONLY A Theory) I’m taking a guess from panel 3,4 and 6.. Angora and Princess are sisters and Snowball is Princess’s daughter er Kitten.. Which leads me to….

3.) Who is Sweetheart Taggart mention in the credits??? *Cue Dramatic Music!!!*

Thank you Georgia!! This is a delicate part of life so we aren’t rushing into things. Question: What channel are the BCN watching their soaps? I figured if us people watched the same channel, we would just hear meows, or subtitles..

And as a present to everyone..

Panel 7 Snowball: Thank Goodness for my pills..
Panel 8 Narrator sings “For the taste that can’t be beat! Yummy nom nom kitty treats!”
        Panel 9 Snowball winks…

So, if the BCN crew have soap operas, and we’ve seen that the Robber Mice use a smartphone as a big-screen TV, I find myself wondering if the gang have had exposure to Neko Atsume, and if so, what their thoughts / feelings on it are?

hoping all goes well on moving day.
you got the apt. you wanted Yippie! and now at last the move is almost over and ( the best part) the settling in part is about to happen.
p.s. when we moved into where we live now the first couple of days one of our cats moved around with belly to the floor and ears set to high alert status. our other cat was simply a streak of fur seen moving from room to room losing himself under furniture. once our sofa was finally in its place and we starting hanging out on it they calm down. just knowing that the bed and the sofa was always in the same spot and we could be found there or in the kitchen cooking really helped them feel secure.
how are your cats dealing with all?

So far they have done amazingly well. I am hoping that when we bring them to the new apartment in a few days (we’re setting up the new apartment while staying and sleeping in corporate housing still for a few days, to ease the transition for cats and kids alike) and they see the couch and our beds and their beds they will be even more at ease.

Shouldn’t Angora call the big male “Grandfather”, not Father?

Viejo Gato and Kit Chase exist somewhere in Orange County, California from that ZIP code. Santa Barbara and the Bold and the Beautiful are the only human soap operas I know that took place in Southern California. I think people like being able to use snow as an easy indicator of the seasons…
