    “Our bitey enemy” ROFL

Beatrix continues to rock. Love her climbing right up on the dog’s head.

Oh man, I wanted to add something, but I forgot, and then I re-read the strip hoping to jog my memory, and it didn’t. And of course as soon as I hit Post, I remembered.

Several years ago, our handyman was doing some work in the basement, making it into a finished room. And one afternoon he brought his dog with him, planning on closing the basement door to keep him down there and away from our cat… but one of his trips, he forgot.

Next thing he knows, Larry sees his 80lb dog in the prime of his life cowering in the corner, with our aging, declawed 10lb cat staring him down.

The following summer, we’re visiting a store that has several yard signs with “Beware of _____” with a cutout of the animal in question (dog, cat, bird, etc.). Except somebody had had some fun with the signs, having realized how easily the “Beware of ____” part could be removed… and switched them all around.

…We saw a “Beware of cat” with a cringing dog… and just had to buy it for Larry. *g*

So cute. Elvis not puffy but Lupin is, that is different. Beatrix does get around and having an extra tea bag is too funny. Love the dogs heart nose. Such attention to detail. Is he based on a real dog?

But…don’t The Robber Mice already have an entry on the “About” page? Although it seems to have been composed before we had learned their names ;-(

They do have an entry on the page that lists the characters, but alas, they do not have their own about page yet. I think only Elivs, Puck, Lupin, Tommy, Tabitha, and Sir Figaro do right now.

Me too, it was like when Wolverine’s claws go SNICKT in the comics, it was like POOF! And Bea is adorable on top of the dog’s head. I’m glad there’s a dog and he’s not chasing the cats against their wills.

Little Beatrix on the dog’s head has got to be the most adorable thing you have ever drawn. And I know you’ve said differently, but in my head, Beatrix is a Coon Kitten.

Yayyy! Thought I’d give BCN one more try before bed and I was NOT disappointed – in more ways than one. I hope our goggie friend will become a semi-regular part of BCN? His face in the 3rd last panel looks so kind and sweet, and I LOVE Beatrix peering over top of his head to talk to him! She’s definitely one busy kitten – though I wonder how she got outside when the Boys aren’t able to.

Elvis and Puck in panel 5! ❤❤❤
Elvis’ comment on dogs not liking Frisbees – I guess that’s why they catch and bite them!
And shape-shifting dogs – only you would write with such insight, Georgia. 🙂

There must be a way out from the laundry room as we’ve seen Burt in there and that’s where his video link up is. I expect the boys avoid outside after Elvis’s misadventure in the snow.

You’re probably right that being outdoors isn’t high on the Boys’ list. Georgia will no doubt enlighten us on Beatrix getting in and out as this continues.

It looks like a flat cap to me. I’ve lived in Scotland for twenty years and never seen anyone wearing a tam, anyway. You see flat caps around occasionally in Scotland and England, usually on older men. Though my partner has one and he’s thirty-five.

He could be a guid Scots dog! Tommy, on the other hand, could only be American.

This is as adorable as ever, and I’m loving Beatrix’s huge paws.

So, I think I’m safe in assuming this is not Leia the pitbull who lives with Tommy and Sophie in real life since this character appears to be a male border collie. (Is he wearing slippers?) Is this maybe based on a real dog who lives on the farm with Burt? A border collie would be a natural at barn catting, er, barn dogging? uhm, farming?

Thanks Georgia for another great strip. There was so much I enjoyed about this strip It is wonderful to see the Breaking Cat world expanding. There’s Beatrix, the young intern, who is full of surprises. Loved how she was open to being friends with the dog right from the instant she saw it, and not afraid because it was supposed to be an enemy. And she had just what he needed to feel better after his weird day. Like a true friend, Burt was not happy with what the cats were saying about dogs, and he made sure to tell them. It was great how Beatrix cam along at the perfect moment to deflect what could get tense and brightened it back to a happy end.

I love the border collie. My grandparents had one for a few years when I was in my teens and she looked like this one. When I was younger, as far back as I can remember, they had a collie/shepherd mix that they named Pepper because he had black spots in the white patches on his legs. His best friend was the tom cat they had, named Tom. They shared his dog house and even ate together until the cat died when Pepper was 10. I can remember taking my new cat over to him, and everyone telling me I was going to get scratched, but I didn’t. The new cat, Blackie, became friends with Pepper and was with him until he died.

Brilliant! 75 years ago (I was 3) my mother brought home a dog from the SPCA and was told the dog was a mutt. My mother always said Cinders was the best babysitter she ever had. She ‘dogged’ my every step when we were outside and would not allow me to step a foot off the property. (I tried and tried to no avail.) Turned out she was a full-blooded Border Collie and I miss her beyond words to this day. This new turn of events is just perfect. Thank you.

Wow Elvis didn’t panic, a first for him i think! Love the tea bag string hanging out of Beatrix’s pocket & her climbing on top of The Dog’s head (he must be a very patient dog to allow her to do that), Puck’s puffiness and his shape shifting chart about their bitey enemy! It’s so sweet how all of the natural enemies of the cats get along in your strip. Would that that could be in real life.

Love the dog shape-shifter chart!l have loved EVERY panel of BCN with pointers and charts since “thunderstorm = vacuum cleaner” many moons ago.(Which would make a great coffee mug illustration, by the way.) So, it looks like the student has surpassed the masters, Beatrix saving the day 🙂 Also I’m thinking its that childlike thing where the learned behaviors of discriminating against someone because they are different have not taken hold, she likes everyone. I think her encounter with Sophie on the wall may have also been a teachable moment for her, because Sophie did not get mad and was a great role model for her. All of these wonderful lessons Georgia, you make people remember who they should be. It’s truly your calling..God bless you my friend 🙂

Nice doggie! My husband thinks you need to introduce a Mastiff (his favorite breed of dog). Wouldn’t it be funny to meet a huge Mastiff who is afraid of cats? Puck: “DOG!” (Super puffy) Mastiff: “EEK! Don’t hurt me!” Mastiffs are sweet dogs but they can be Cowardly Lions. We knew a female mastiff who, when she heard a camera rewinding nearby, leapt into my husband’s lap!

I live in the eastern time zone and went to bed before the comic was up so I checked it this morning before I had put my contacts in. My first thought was there was a new cat and then I looked closer and I decided the new cat looked like a dog. 🙂 First I thought Beatrix was going to be afraid of the dog but it turned out she was concerned about not know about him before she went on her coffee run. Fortunately she carries those extra tea bags.

At first I couldn’t tell what was in front of her face in panel 10 and then I figure out they are her big fluffy paws. 🙂

Glad to hear the dog will be around for awhile. I was considering the date and thought maybe he was just passing through. I grew up with barn cats and farm dogs – they are the best ! Have the Boys ever met a dog in real life? The “OMC what is THAT” reaction and the third hand info on how dogs work is adorable as they figure out what this canine thing Tommy’s found is.

From the outfit, coloring, and Burt association, I’m guessing sheepdog from either Burt’s farm or another one nearby. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see how a sheepdog works the sheep when you can understand the words involved!

This is a mellow fellow! All the border collies I’ve ever known are *motivated.* My dear friend’s lovely dog spent an entire party trying to herd us all into one room. (She was frustrated that we wouldn’t stay put.) Looking forward to learning more about Burt’s buddy!

That’s hilarious, Jody! I immediately got a mental picture of a poor confused frustrated dog trying so hard to do what he thought was his job!

Many years ago I had a collie mix dog. She was small (her mom was mostly beagle, dad was a collie that could jump a 6 foot fence) about sheltie/boarder collie size. She would herd anything and everything.
If we took her on a hike she would scout the trail ahead, then run back, checker each person hiking, then get behind the last person and nudge him (or her) until he caught up to the next person, then she run up the trail again, scout some more, then back to make the last person catch up. Over and over. She must have run three times as far as we hiked.
She also tried herding cats, well kittens. My Mom’s cat had a litter of 5 kittens that were about 4 or 5 weeks old. She (the mother cat) needed a break and would leave the kittens in the back yard with the dog and go off hunting. The dog would round of the kittens, then lay down with her front legs outstretched. She tried to keep all five kitties between her paws. One after another the kittens would wander off. The dog would get up, and using her nose, roll the wandering kitten back to the others, lie down with them between her paws until another babe would take off. This would go on for a couple of hours. I think the dog enjoyed herself. I know the mom cat enjoyed the time off.

I may have mentioned this before: my mom had a dog who was of a herding breed. She said that the dog kept trying to herd her into a certain room.

Why do I get the feeling Beatrix will grow up to be a librarian (cat) or a kindergarten teacher(cat)?

Love the dog! He must be a Scot. What is it with kittens climbing onto dogs heads? Our newly adopted Mr. Whiskers (the kitten who refused to die) likes nothing better than to climb up on the German Shepherds’ head and bite her ears. The poor dog puts up with it and retaliates by trying to pick him up like a puppy In the dog’s favor Whiskers is getting too big to slink into some of the “safe places” he used to fit in. As always, it is impossible to keep a straight face in the presence of a kitten! Love your work Georgia. You are amazing.

“Earl Grey — Hot” would have been better. But a grand story nonetheless. Looking forward to more trans-species interactions. (But not with the snake).

I LOVE DOGS (actually more than cats, whoops) so I am delighted to meet a dog in BCN! I wondered if we ever would!

That’s what’s wonderful about cats. Most are delightfully weird. One girl cat I had was from a rescued female that I didn’t know was pregnant. Her daughter, as a kitten, was the first to eat solid food. But after that first bit of meat, she refused to touch meat again and dislike good quality cat food. Her favourite treat was apples. I couldn’t leave them out or I’d find she had gnawed apples trying to get a proper bite out of one (or many). She also loved strawberries.

The cat I had before the one I have now LOVED raw green beans. I’ve probably mentioned it before. He wasn’t a fussy eater, enjoying raw and cooked potatoes, broccoli, sweet red peppers and raw mushrooms as well as cat food and raw or cooked meat. But his all-time favourite was his green beans – cat candy to him. Among my friends and local grocers, he became ‘famous’ for it. He was a funny sweet boy.

Heh. The shapeshifter thing… it’s funny, but at the same time it demonstrates something that was discussed on a British TV show a few years ago, namely that dogs have a far greater diversity of body shapes than any other animal, and *nobody knows why*.

Until we learn otherwise, I’m gonna imagine it was Tillie who directed Beatrix to the BCN’s window for rescuing. Freddie would still do anything she could to help a kitty and Tillie knows, at least Puck.
