Same with mine. She also enjoys being informed that she’s small and fuzzy and cute.

I have often been tempted to comment that a particular strip is my favorite, but I’ve resisted because…well, somehow I knew this one was coming. THIS is my favorite strip ever. It’s perfect in every way.

Slightly different questions are posed in my house, with the same result: “Who’s a sweet kitty baby? Who is? Whooooooooo is?” (Hazza) “Who’s mummah’s fat sweet boy? Who’s my big boy?” (Boyd) “Who’s the prettiest white kitty in the world? Who is mummah’s sweet angel kitty?” (Spencer)

(Jonwalker doesn’t like to be condescended to, so he avoids these shenanigans at all cost.)

I adore the under-the-chin angle of Puck and proud Elvis’s happy, curly tail!

The expression on Lupin’s face in panel 9 is THE BEST.

I respectfully disagree. Lupin’s shade-throwing in panel 4 is THE BEST.

One of my cats just too much adores being called a good boy; it’s way better than kitty treats, in his opinion. =)

I regularly ask each of my eight cats “who’s my best guy?” or “who’s my best girl?” (depending on the gender of the askee). Except for Sebastian Catbutt, who gets asked “who’s my buddy, who’s my pal?” on a daily basis.

I just wanted to pass along a comment from my furry friend, Bailey Dog, he says, “Out of the way cats! I’m the good boy!”

Our two boys frequently get asked some version of “Who’s a handsome little pest?”, followed by an ear scritch. This usually occurs when they’ve managed to do something that is equal parts annoying and adorable at the same time.

Typically when I do this the cat responds with a purr then a quick twist of the head and he sinks his teeth into my thumb.

Hi! I was wondering about Lupin’s real life response when you guys are talking to him! Does he know that you guys are talking to him or understands when you are talking to the other boys? (I have a blind one-eyed cat who has no problem pretending she can see just fine!)

    • Georgia Dunn
      November 20, 2014, 11:20 pm | # | Reply

He does seem to understand when we are talking to him, or at least when he is getting one on one attention with sweet words and chin/ear rubs. We supplement many of his commands with signs (which, like all cats when given commands, he then chooses to follow or ignore on a whim). He has a sign for “come here,” “stop,” “down,” and “no.” We also have taken to petting him and telling him in American Sign Language, “You’re a good cat,” which looks a bit like us pointing, patting our chin, and then stroking imaginary whiskers. He seems to enjoy it, or at least, he gives us that sweet, slow blink that cats hand out when they’re feeling lovey. 🙂

Puck and Elvis even now often seem at a loss when Lupin does something they know to be against the rules, and we respond by silently signing at him frantically “Stop!” “No!” “Down!”

My mom tends to tell my older cat Coco, “You’re my kitty, my beautiful Coco kitty, and mommy loves you very much.” Given her reaction to hearing that, my mom thinks that Coco considers that the phrase mom’s way of purring.

The great question in my house is “Who’s mommy’s pretty itty bitty baby girl?!” And I know I must ask it in the most annoying voice. And she’s 7 so she’s not really a baby.

Ain’t no shade like Lupin shade – I love Panel 4 side eyes.

That said, I do find that I prefer the less detailed but so perfectly feline expressions you coax from your characters. I think we’ve all gotten side eyes from our cats and so much of cat communication is eye/ear/claw-based that I’ve never minded that Hello Kitty has no mouf (though we now know she’s not really a cat … **insert Panel 4 here**)

not to be rude. a follow up report was placed where the creators say she isn’t a little girl either. their basic statement is that they said she wasn’t a cat meaning not a cat in the way we’re used to as in 4-legged and non speaking. shes an anthropomorphic cat, so human-like, but still a cat

Lupin “throwin’ shade”, hooo hooo. had to look that up. then
lupin cleverly positions his cup to accompany the shade with a visually resounding “NO”.
