Yeah! Trevor is about to be with Beatrix in the book store. And, he likes her. Trevor’s woman won’t have to worry about it anymore.
Baba is a wonderful hostess – cookies and tea, nice tea cups, in a very homey setting. Very sweet.
Thanks Georgia for another wonderful strip.

Yay!!! Trevor is in for a sweet surprise. The plot is coming together. And doesn’t Baba have loads of postcards. I wonder what she does with that crystal ball. Ancient Baba still goes out for patrols because Alice and the girls are never late. It’s great that so many threads for so many characters are being woven together for lots of speculation on future episodes!

Who knew Baba was a bowler! All those trophies! Love that the crystal ball was really a bowling ball. And she bakes fish-shaped cookies/treats! She’s the best.

Trevor’s “accent” – hilarious. Tommy – “there, there boy”! Can’t wait for Trevor to learn Beatrix will part of his family. 🙂

Love it… oh so wonderful… Thank you, Geogia, for your skill, to make me cry with your paintings.

…and oh, what do I see: There is a Kuckucksuhr (transation: cuckoo clock) hanging at the wall in Baba’s room – like it was at my grandparents’ house when I was a little girl!

Best wishes and greetings from Germany!

      May 6, 2016, 7:18 am | # | Reply

I had a certain amount of feels about the cukoo clock, too. My grandparents have always had one hanging above their kitchen table, too. Baba’s looks a lot like theirs, actually. Even got those dangly “pinecone” (my name for them since I was little because that’s what they looked like to me) things that power it right. Theirs is centered behind the table, though, while Baba’s is slightly off to one side. Still would be enough to make me feel right at home in Baba’s kitchen. 🙂

      Excellent strip, as usual, Georgia!

And cue a mass “I knew it” from the posters. Poor Trevor, thinking he’s gonna lose his little friend. It’s going to be a great strip when he finds out otherwise. No creature on Earth does HappyHappyHappy quite like a happy dog.

Go a bit easy on the Boys, Mouse. This is the first kitten they’ve sent off into the world. It isn’t easy!

So worth waiting for, Georgia! You have put an INCREDIBLE amount into this. Don’t EVER think we don’t appreciate this. From the continuing storyline and connecting various threads together to sweet and clever writing (e.g. “give them …a deep distrust of the vacuum cleaner” “There, there, boy”) to wonderful artwork – you did SO much here!!!

Love the postcards from all over the world. Obvious ones are Big Ben, Seattle’s Space Needle, Eiffel Tower, pyramids of Egypt, Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty in the harbour, plus Santa Monica and the Ferris Wheel (which I wouldn’t have known about). There are flags of Canada, the UK, Brazil, Russia and Rhode Island. Some cards appear to be scenes or symbols but I’m not sure. Does every postcard mean something or are some simply what they look like – photo of a cactus, moon and starry sky, sunset over the ocean? I’m curious ’cause you put these little ‘Easter eggs’ in many of your strips.

Baba’s kittens have certainly gotten around showing she’s been a great mama cat, raising them well when she was younger. She’s still got years of wisdom to offer now – like the tough love advice for Elvis (loved how you showed her strong feelings when she grabbed the mike from Tommy). You’ve made me curious if we meet any of the kittens she raised that stayed close to home. Or perhaps one or two of those we already know about our her relatives.

      May 5, 2016, 4:06 pm | # | Reply

Thank you, Jude!! Some of the post cards have personal meaning (the Santa Monica one, the Seattle one, and the RI one) some are shout outs to readers throughout the world… And a few were me calling over my shoulder to the Man, “where would you like a post card from?” (Egypt!)

I’m so glad you didn’t rush the strip – I never mind waiting an extra day or so because it’s always worth it – all the little details of Baba Mouse’s house, I think I spent 10 minutes trying to work out where all her postcards are from! I think it’s amazing how you can keep up with two small children and still make time to create this beautiful art with fabulous story lines that never disappoint 🙂 Am looking forward to the next one, it will be such a nice surprise for Trevor!

I almost never cry, but your strips make me tear up on a regular basis. Best bits in this one are “Cancel the pity party” and that Trevor is Trevor.

I’m assuming time passes in this strip, so we will eventually see Beatrix grow up, but time isn’t going to pass enough that Baba Mouse dies, is it? And nobody’s ever going to get permanently lost or run over? One this I love about following the story of fictional cats is that, unless the author decides it should, nothing awful will ever happen to them. I like the idea that, no matter how many old kitties I have buried in our back woods, Baba Mouse will always be there.

Maybe I missed the story on this many episodes ago, but why does Baba Mouse look more like a cat than a mouse? Furry face, fluffy tail, as big as the boys… This isn’t criticism in any way because I love the characters and your style, Georgia, but I’m just curious.

      Hi, Fran
Baba Mouse is a cat. She was named Mouse as a kitten, possibly by Freddie because she was so tiny. She received the title Baba (grandmother) when she grew older.

I totally love the beware the vacuum cleaner bit and of course TREVOR, yay he’s going to be so happy! Also pleased that your postcards included one from Canada, which gives me the chance to remind your readers of the awful situation in Alberta just now, the fires destroying towns and cities and lives (however you feel about the tar sands, which I myself hate). The federal government here has pledged to match every dollar donated to the Canadian Red Cross for this disaster, and you can if you like donate here: https://donate.redcross.ca/ea-action/action

(Sorry if I’ve hijacked your site, Georgia, but remember many of the 88,000 – so far – evacuated people also have beloved cats, and dogs, and rabbits, and mice, and horses and…. well, you get the idea. Who will all need help in the coming days and months!) (PSA over, thanks!)

How is it that Baba Mouse is…not a mouse?

She’s a cat named ‘Mouse’ and is a Baba–honorific for a grandmother or older lady.

Georgia, this strip was worth the wait. Baba’s advice was spot on, and I loved her giving the boys a calling out about feeling sorry for themselves. I loved all the postcards from her family. They were lovely and from all over the world. That is great that her family thinks of her to send them, and as she said, Beatrix will not forget the boys either.

Dear Lady: more wonderfulness! I’m glad the strip was delayed a few days because so many orphan kittens started pouring into the shelter early this week that I have not had time to even look at stuff. I know many shelters deal with far more intakes than we have … but they have way more staff! AS always you have created another joy filled strip. Your magic has a way of keeping those of us in the trenches positive. Bless you.

My question on when is the next episode was not about the next strip, but the next episode of “Our IX Lives”.

(Somehow, the reply threading was not working for me.)

I am not very concerned about you being late or missing the odd time. You have a good record, and I understand about family.

    Georgia,

I will post this next strip higher up, so everyone can see and read…

I dedicate today’s comic about Baba Mouse to my friend, my baba Mouse,
She loved calling me “her grandson”. She passed away in her sleep early Sunday morning. Her saying was “If you love cats, let them be themselves and they will adapt to you eventually. They have their own souls…”

Until everything is sorted out, I guard the house and her two precious cats…

I was given a Snowshoe kitten when I was living in Kazakhstan. I was learning Russian and thought it would be funny to give her an unusual name so called her Mouishka which means Little Mouse (female – a boy would have been Mouish). Everyone thought it was weird that I’d name a cat “Mouse”. She lived a good long life, travelling through several countries with my family and died aged 16 last year so she would have been a “Baba” (old lady/grandmother) as well!

OH MY GOSH HE IS TREVOR!!!!!!! <3
Seeing his reaction to her being gone almost broke my heart. I can't wait until he goes home and finds her there!
Also, loved the fact Baba tries to instill a "deep distrust of the vacuum cleaner" in all her kittens. A very important trait going out into the world.

Had a lovely dream last night – Breaking Cat News Nursery Murals wallpaper! Elvis by the door saying, “SHH! You have just entered the Baby’s room!”; the Robber Mice making off with the baby’s bottle and a teddy bear; Baba Mouse sitting in a rocking chair with a book of Mother Goose stories, reading to Tommy and Sophie; Puck curled up on a blanket; Lupin using a crib as a balance beam…I don’t even have children, and I wanted some for my guest room!

I haven’t gone into it yet in the comic, but here in the comic she lives on the farm with Burt, so his family is her family! In real life Burt lives with my dear friend Christine, her husband Will, and their two children. Baba Mouse is based on a kitty I had as a child who has since passed away, but in real life there is an ancient little barn cat on the farm named Sheila. 🙂

“Cancel the pity party” is my new favorite phrase. Thank you Georgia. This strip is just gorgeous, especially Baba Mouse’ kitchen and all the postcards – such incredible detail! I really treasure these strips because I know you won’t be able to put in so much once you go to daily. Also you are a wonderful storyteller. I hope there will be a second book including all of these recent strips. Just can’t get enough of the boys and their friends.

Do any of the readers out there have some computer advice on this? I wrote to Donna too but my email was little more than “hmmm… I’m sorry I do not know!” Does this sound familiar to any of the more tech minded folks out there? (I’d get Burt on the line, but he takes Fridays off for llama guarding).

In my time I’ve had cats named after fish (Grayling) and birds (Linnet) although there were literary and TV tie-ins to both. [Georgia, given your fondness for British detective drama, I wonder if you can get the reference!] It’s a good thing your well-traveled Mioushka was a girl, though. Мышь is feminine whatever (as we know from the intrepid band of robber mice!)

To clarify, both my grandmas live in Hong Kong.. I never did get to visit them like most kids. “Grandma” was my elderly friend who was born the same day as me and the same year as my father.. For that reason plus her loving late husband whom past away before I met him, was a USMC ( Marine Corp.) till the end.. I stick by her side…

Her oldest cat comes in and out of the house but rarely lets me pet her.. The younger cat comes in and out too but sometimes makes time for much needed belly rubs and loud purring..

Crystal Balls actually used to be pretty popular in Ye Olden Days. You would put a candle under it and it would diffuse the light, and then lay your crochet, knitting over it so you can see what you are doing in dim light.
