Yep…my three girls understand the word “LADIES” in a loud, annoyed tone means—no fighting!
They’re sisters from the same litter, but there are occasional dominance fights.
    I win!

The fights is my house are generally the younger three going after the eldest, the sweet-natured and mellow fellow who welcomed each one of them with kisses, never hissed or growled at them when they were kittens, and put up with their antics. Now I hear him hiss a lot, because he simply doesn’t want to fight, so the phrases heard all the time in my house are, “Leave Milo alone!” and “Quit harassing Milo!”

Jingle Belle Katz used to have a part-time roommate, (he spent most of his time outside and came in for meals), a black and white neutered male called Oreo. Her Rotundity would stalk and pounce on him every time he came in, then there would be squalling, swatting and chasing no matter how much I wielded the deadly bottle o’ squirt. Oreo finally quit coming in at all.

Every cat owner I know has a spray bottle handy. I only have to pick mine up, it doesn’t even have to have water in it, and the fight suddenly comes to am end. Saves me from having stuff get wet. I only need it now and then so I guess it isn’t so bad. Love this strip as it reminds me of all the fur babies I have had all my life. Thank you Georgia.

I just mentioned this on Facebook, but I wanted to let everyone here know too: My book editor let me know a few days ago that the first printing of the book is almost 75% sold out through pre-orders! This means there may be a second printing soon–and the book does not even come out onto book shelves until May 10th!

Thank you, so, so much!! The better the book sells the better chance we have of eventually getting ‘Breaking Cat News’ into newspapers, and maybe hopefully a few more books down the road? (Nothing has been said on more books yet, I’m not teasing anything–I’m just being optimistic! Optimism’s free, but I’ve found it pays off when invested well).

I am so happy so many of you have already purchased the book! I can’t thank you enough! Even now, most of this post is just me shouting happy things at you all with exclamation points. I AM SO HAPPY! I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY TOO!!! And now that there will be a second printing, so many of you will have books from the first printing! Hooray!!!

    Thank you!!!!

Years ago I had a tiny kitten I decided to train with a water pistol. She was hovered over and protected by Norton, my alpha male. Everything was going well and she thought discipline was raining – literally-from above whenever she transgressed until one day when Norton saw me use it. It disappeared right after that and I never found it, even when I moved from that house. I know he put it someplace.

Terrific fangs there, for all! Our three fight sometimes, but not over territory – nobody has one special place that the others leave alone, they rather take turns using the various cat stands, boxes, etc. (We’ve got too many boxes on the floor, again!) But once in a while they getting into boxing matches anyway; it’s only the two siblings who sometimes actually tear out fur, though. And the water pistol, well, haven’t seen it around lately…. Congrats on the near full sales on your book, Georgia! I pre-ordered mine from Amazon months and months ago, now maybe I’d better increase the number from one to, oh 6 or so while I still can get the First Edition {g}!

I’m hoping this is a moment where the Woman announces her arrival with “BOYS…” in that threatening tone that all people in a multicat house know and which breaks up not-quite-catfights four times out of five. Glaring and posturing isn’t QUITE squirtbottle territory in out house.

Though I am quite prepared to accept that this is for comic effect.

Love Bea on the cameraphone! Bonus panel of her showing the recording to the Upstairs Cats, maybe? I can see Tabitha laughing herself silly.

I have three cats. The two youngest will “fight” sometimes and when the oldest cat gets tired of it he will walk between them. End of fight. Spraying with water doesn’t work for me. They look up as if to say “Is it raining in here”? And keep right on doing whatever they were doing in the first place.

The Woman should be wearing a blue helmet with UFN on it (United Furry Nations), as she looks nothing like Teddy Roosevelt or the US Marines …. Good luck with the peacekeeping efforts. Funny how a spray bottle (a Weapon of Mass Sogginess) is the ultimate deterrent.

We added a third cat to our household early in the new year, after he wandered into our garden and stuck around for awhile. It was a slow, somewhat difficult integration, but we’ve reached a point where all three can be on the bed at night without too much fuss.

The two boys still have regular paw slap fights, however, very similar to panels 2 and 3. But given that the claws aren’t out, I’ll take it. 🙂

Our 2 cats will do this now and again, usually ending with Brianna (6lb female) beating the snot out of Bixby (14lb male).
My wife and I usually only have to say “Enough!!” or “Be nice” and they both stop, unfortunately they will start it back up again in about 10 mins.
Bixby and I used to box at times, was cute, I always got the point when he had enough, he would grab my hand and hold it fast in his paws and pretend bite it then lick where he bit, repeating it a few times.

In our household, the younger (by a couple weeks) male cat will sometimes come charging across the room at the older (barely) female cat.

Generally, all she has to do is look up and he stops. Sometimes he starts again, she raises a paw, and he slinks off.

Our oldest cat, Champagne, does NOT like the other cats and would much prefer to be left alone. She also is prone to bladder crystals that can be triggered by stress and cause her to urinate outside the litter box.
So we have only one rule when the cats fight: “Chammie wins!”

When I was a child, my Dad decided it would be fun to let our Siamese cats have kittens and then sell them. He didn’t do it for the money. He did it because he wanted to play with the kittens. Unfortunately, he would fall in love with at least one kitten from each litter. My mom put a stop to the operation when we ended up with 5 Siamese cats, four of whom were females. This was back in the late 50’s when spaying wasn’t a big deal, the only litter available was ground up corn cobs, and you couldn’t buy scratching posts in the local pet shop. Try to imagine having 4 female cats in heat at the same time. Anyway, most of the litters consisted of 5 kittens. We had a large scratching post that my dad constructed out of a small log and the burlap strips used in upholstery. The kittens loved to play king of the mountain on the scratching post. One would make it to the top where it would have to fend off the other four. Thanks for the memories, Georgia. Rest in Peace Squaller [aka Georgina], Big Bad John, Annabelle, Minnie the Moocher, and Sadie the Lady. Rest in peace, Dad, who named all the cats and Mom who put up with us all.

I have used the Squirt Bottle of Justice / Doom / whatever. My cats did not like it. Since it did not do them any harm (as a swatting might), it also meant that when a cat was very bad, the cat became very wet. They noticed when I went for the bottle: chilling effect.

As always, love the comic. And congrats on the success of the book!. One thing that never fails for my cats (two alpha females that tolerate each other) drop a few pennies is a clean soda can. If they misbehave, shake it. They stop whatever they are doing and run. Works every time. They don’t like that sound.

It’d love to see how the picture the robber mouse turned out and what it looks like.

Why does everyone in the world have a lovely ‘male-cat-protecting-helpless-kitten’ story but me? Why does my Buddy lack the caretaker gene???

    But seriously, great story! 🙂

Oh, oh! hope all is well and all are healthy … we wait with baited breath for the next installment but know there are many things more important than giving us all our “fix” of breaking cat news! When the next episode appears we will all love it as we all love you.

Thank you, Taffy! All is well here, this one just took me a bit longer to paint than usual.

I know they can’t talk in real life, but I keep picturing Puck and Elvis having this conversation In real life.

What I love most about using the spray bottle is when one notices, and then the other turns to see what has the first spooked, and they both run without a shot fired, or with just a little spritz fired short of the battle.

The biggest fights in my home happen when the younger of my two cats decides the best cat toy in the world is his older brother’s tail.
